1.1 These requirements cover conductive charging system equipment intended to be used in repair or production facilities and intended to be supplied by a branch circuit of 600 volts or less. These chargers are intended to supply power to the vehicle battery for the purposes of diagnostic testing of the battery pack or to provide a recharge during or after servicing. These chargers are considered for indoor use only and are intended to be installed in accordance with the NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code® (NEC®), NFPA 70.

1.2 For the purposes of this Outline, the term “electric vehicle”, designated throughout by the initials “EV”, is considered to cover electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in versions of these vehicles.

1.3 As these chargers are not intended for use by the general public, and they are not intended for normal charging of electric vehicle batteries, they are not considered to fall under the scope of Article 625 of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

1.4 These requirements do not cover battery chargers covered by the Standard for Battery Chargers for Charging Engine-Starter Batteries, UL 1236, or the Standard for Industrial Battery Chargers, UL 1564. These requirements do not cover electric vehicle battery chargers covered by the Standard for DC Charging Equipment for Electric Vehicles, UL 2202. These requirements do not cover electric vehicle supply equipment covered by the Standard for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment, UL 2594.
