013920-000000-0000001 Scope
1.1 The requirements of this Outline apply to the supporting hardware and fasteners for use with power cables and communication cables used in elevator hoistways.
The hardware specified in this Outline is intended for installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 and the Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, ASME A17.1/CSA B44.
1.2 The hardware covered by this Outline is intended for use in an ambient temperature not greater than 40 °C and not less than -10 °C.
NOTE: This Outline does not include requirements for hardware intended for use in an ambient temperature above 40 °C. Additional investigation of the hardware will be required when it is to be used in an ambient temperature above 40 °C.
1.3 The object of this Outline is to reduce the risk of damage to electrical conductors and to conductor and jacket insulation that may result from strain on the electrical conductors or abrasion and other physical damage to conductor and jacket insulation. Additionally, the object of this Outline is to demonstrate that the supporting hardware has the necessary strength to support the weight of the traveling cables without damage to the hardware or failure of the fastening means.
1.4 These requirements do not cover power cables, communication cables, and wire connectors. Power cables are covered by the Standard for Flexible Cords and Cables, UL 62. Communication cables are covered by the Standard for Communications Cables, UL 444. Wire connectors are covered by the Standard for Wire Connectors, UL 486A-486B.
1.5 In this Outline, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy to comply with the outline; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Outline.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
