1 Scope

1.1 These requirements apply to thermistors used in Electric Vehicles (EV) and are based on the general specifications/environmental conditions expected in use.

1.2 The acceptability of an EV Thermistor in any particular Electric Vehicle depends upon its ability to be used continuously under the conditions that prevail in actual service. Accordingly, for a particular Electric Vehicle application, an EV Thermistor may be affected by the requirements for the equipment it is used in, and it may be necessary to additionally evaluate features or performance characteristics that are not specified in this outline.

1.3 This outline includes requirements for positive temperature coefficient (PTC) and negative temperature coefficient (NTC) type thermistors and thermistor package assemblies for use in Electric Vehicles.

1.4 The EV thermistors covered in this outline are constructed of ceramic or polymeric semiconductor material for its thermistor pellet.

1.5 This outline does not cover thermistors for general use in applications other than EV applications. Those devices would be covered by the Standard for Thermistor-Type Devices, UL 1434.
