SUMMARY OF TOPICS
The following changes in requirements to the Standard for Discharge Lamp Control Devices, Part 1 - General Requirements, NMX-J-611/1-ANCE / CSA C22.2 No. 74-1 / UL 935-1, are being proposed for preliminary review and comment only:
1. For Preliminary Review Only: This Proposed First Edition of the Standard for Discharge Lamp Control Devices, Part 1 - General Requirements, NMX-J-611/1-ANCE / CSA C22.2 No. 74-1 / UL 935-1, includes the following proposals: a) Scope changes to include the use of the term control gear to encompass various discharge technologies, such as fluorescent and high intensity discharge; b) Revised definitions including appropriate terms for control gear and included lamp technologies; c) Revised general requirements for fire hazard, shock hazard and installation requirements to harmonize the requirements across the affected region; d) Revised requirements for components harmonized across the affected region, where possible; e) Lamp Control Gear environmental considerations were changed to Dry, Damp Type 1 (outdoor Type 1), Damp Type 2 (outdoor Type 2), and weather location (weatherproof) to harmonize them across the region; f) Harmonized construction requirements across the affected region, where possible; g) Revised resistance to corrosion requirements harmonized across the affected region, where possible; h) Revised compound, connection to mains, terminals, lead wires, other internal wires, plugs and cords and terminal parts requirements for harmonization across the affected region, where possible; i) Revised shock hazard considerations to harmonize across the affected region, where possible; j) Revised insulation materials and systems harmonized across the affected region, where possible; k) Requirements for bushings, coils, printed wiring boards, power capacitors, thermal protectors and protective devices in lamp control gear Class P harmonized across the affected region, where possible; l) Revised overcurrent protection, polymeric materials and markings to harmonize across the affected region, where possible; m) Revised lamp control gear general part testing requirements to harmonize across the affected region, where possible.
