1 Scope

1.1 These requirements apply to internally illuminated exit (and other) signs intended to be visible during normal operation and during a facility loss of power event. These signs do not conform to one or more of the prescriptive sign legend requirements of UL 924, Standard for Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment.

1.2 The designs or images presented by these signs are intended to conform to jurisdictional requirements for locations identified in their installation instructions.

1.3 These requirements address the minimum necessary safeguards for protection against fire, electric shock injury, and casualty. They also address visibility performance and, where an integral backup power source is provided, verified operating time. These requirements parallel those of UL 924 with deviations permitted for sign text, image, and minimum operating time.

1.4 Signs compliant with these requirements may be deemed suitable for installation by authorities having jurisdiction where visibility and/or operating time performance reliability is desired.
