Summary of Topics

This second issue of the Outline of Investigation for Spill Containment for Stationary Acid and Alkaline Electrolyte Battery Systems has been revised to cover containment systems dealing with alkaline electrolyte for nickel batteries such as Ni-cad types. These requirements cover spill containment for stationary acid and alkaline electrolyte battery systems (e.g. lead acid batteries and Ni-Cad batteries) investigated for liquid tightness, level of electrolyte absorption, pH neutralization capability, and flame spread resistance. These systems are intended to provide a means of containment for hazardous material liquids in the event of electrolyte leakage from stationary lead-acid, nickel or similar electrolyte battery systems.
