1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover stationary centrifugal fire pumps intended for use in water-supply systems for fire-protection service.

1.2 The pumps covered by these requirements are intended for installation and use in accordance with the Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection, NFPA 20.

Summary of Topics

This revision of ANSI/CAN/UL 448 dated September 4, 2025, includes the following changes in requirements:

– Exception for single phase motors per NFPA 20; 9.6 and 29.7

– Hydrostatic testing of proprietary column flanges; 27.1 and 28.1

– Updating and clarification of construction and marking requirements; 7.9, 7.15, 9.1, 11.5 and 29.3
