Ordering InformationThe first edition of the Standard Electric Motor-Operated Hand-Held Tools, Transportable Tools And Lawn And Garden Machinery - Safety - Part 2-5: Particular Requirements For Hand-Held Circular Saws, UL 62841-2-5, was published on August 12, 2016 and is the current standard.
The implementation date for UL 62841-2-5, First edition, is August 12, 2019, except for lithium-ion cordless products (i.e. the battery system and the battery charger).
After August 12, 2019, all new product designs (corded and cordless) and *revised constructions of currently certified products will be required to be evaluated in accordance with the new requirements of UL 62841-2-5.
*A product that is modified by a single change such that the heating, impact and abnormal test(s) must all be performed is considered to be a revised construction.
Between the present and August 12, 2019, all new product designs (corded and cordless construction) and revised constructions of currently certified products that are submitted to UL must be evaluated under all requirements in this Standard or, if requested in writing, evaluated under presently effective requirements only. The presently effective requirements are contained in the Second edition of UL 60745-2-5, Hand-Held Motor-Operated Electric Tools - Safety - Part 2-5: Particular Requirements for Circular Saws.
For products with a lithium-ion cordless construction (i.e. the battery system and the battery charger), a review of all products that have been previously evaluated to UL 60745-2-5 will be required to comply with the new requirements in UL 62841-2-5 by August 12, 2019. New product submittals will be required to comply with the new requirements in UL 62841-2-5.
Listed products shall comply with UL 62841-1 and the associated Part 2 (hand-held tools), as of the effective date specified for the Part 2, standards.
A UL effective date is one established by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. and is not part of the ANSI approved standard.
The Second edition of UL 60745-2-5 remains available. Please note that a subscription to the fourth edition will provide only bulletins and future updates for that particular edition.
