1.1 This Standard shall apply to egress door securing and releasing devices to perform the function of holding a door in the closed position and releasing the door to permit free egress when operated. Egress door securing and releasing devices are considered ancillary devices and are not an integral part of the fire alarm system.
1.2 This Standard covers physical and performance requirements for egress door securing and releasing devices for use in accordance with CAN/ULC S524, Standard for Installation of Fire Alarm Systems, in accordance with CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations, and as permitted by the National Building Code of Canada.
1.3 These requirements cover egress door securing and releasing devices for use in ordinary locations, dry locations, damp locations, wet locations, indoor locations and locations opening to the outdoors.
1.4 Egress door securing and releasing devices for use in hazardous locations shall comply with the requirements of this Standard, and the manufacturer’s recommended wiring methods shall comply with the applicable requirements of CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations, with respect to the hazard location.
