SUMMARY OF TOPICS
The following changes in requirements to the Standard for Electric Signs, UL 48, are being proposed:
1. Revisions to Table 4.2 and Table 4.3 to re-establish minimum metal thickness values for steel, aluminum, copper, and aluminum and copper based alloys similar to those values in the 14th edition of UL 48.
2. Revision of the requirements in 4.1.5.3.1 for screws secured to sheet metal less than 1.27-mm (0.50-in) thick, including deletion of the Self-Threading Screw Torque Test (5.20) for this specific screw application.
3. Revision and clarification of the permitted use of self-drilling thread cutting and thread forming screws in 4.1.5.3.3 and addition of 4.1.5.3.4.
4. Revision and clarification of the minimum wire size requirements for internal connection to a branch circuit conductor in 4.2.5.2.1 to correspond to the value in the 14th Edition.
5. Deletion of the detailed specifications for the container holding the test water in 5.9.1 to re-establish the same or greater test flexibility previously permitted under the 14th Edition of UL 48.
