1 Scope
1.1 The intent of this Outline of Investigation is to utilize the existing applicable US requirements in UL 268, Standard for Smoke Detectors For Fire Alarm Systems, and incorporate additional requirements necessary for the evaluation of Video Image Smoke Detectors. Although Video Image Smoke Detectors may include flame detection, this Outline does not include testing for flame detectors or the combination of Video Image and Flame detection.
1.2 The Video Image Smoke Detectors addressed by this Outline are to be investigated with the intent to detect the image of smoke from a fire in the field of view area defined by the limits of the camera. Installation/operating document(s) and/or product marking information provided with the product must describe the specific operating parameters of the product. This information assists in defining some of the limits required for the certification program.
1.3 Unless otherwise noted in this Outline of Investigation, all US requirements in UL 268 are considered applicable for Video Image Smoke Detectors.
1.4 Clause references noted in Outline of Investigation correlate to references noted in UL 268, unless otherwise noted.
1.5 All applicable requirements that reference the completion of the Sensitivity Test as outlined in Section 30 in the Standard for Smoke Detectors for Fire Alarm Systems, UL 268, shall be substituted with the Fire Tests as referenced in Section 38 of this Outline.
1.6 Reference to the use of two samples shall be replaced with only one sample for testing.
