01008b-000000-0000001 Scope
1.1 This Outline applies to source interconnection switches intended for interconnection of sources and/or loads in a Distributed Energy Resource System (DERS) sometimes referred to as a microgrid or other similar applications, that have a maximum rating of 1000 volts ac, 1500 V dc, for use in non-hazardous locations, in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70.
1.2 Source interconnection switches covered by this Outline are intended to parallel multiple sources within a DERS/microgrid and may also be used to connect a load to the DERS/microgrid. Sources which may be connected using these switches include interactive inverters/converters and other types of generation equipment with active controls that allow synchronization with other sources.
1.3 This Outline applies only to the switching devices and the basic controls for such switches. Integration of multiple source interconnection switches into a DERS/microgrid will normally require additional system level controls to coordinate DERS/microgrid switching operations.
1.4 This Outline specifically does not apply to:
a) Transfer switches covered by the Standard for Transfer Switch Equipment, UL 1008;
b) Interconnection switches for use in emergency or legally required systems;
c) Switches used in equipment manufactured in accordance with the Standard for Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment, UL 924; or
d) Switches rated over 1000 Vac or 1500 V dc.
1.5 These switches are not intended for service equipment use.
NOTE: This does not preclude use of these devices in other equipment, where a service disconnect is located on the supply side of the source interconnection switch.
1.6 These requirements apply to source interconnection switches and their associated circuits to monitor and control voltage, frequency, phase angle, and the like.
1.7 These requirements apply to completely enclosed source interconnection switches and to open types intended for mounting in other equipment such as switchboards or switchgear. The integration of these source interconnection switches in other equipment is subject to the requirements of the standard covering the final equipment.
